I just ran across this picture that we took at the Santa Barbara Zoo several years ago. I cannot remember the name of this beast for the life of me...any ideas?

Hmm, I have no clue. But that is a great shot!
Is that a capybara? Hmmmm ... It is kind of cute.
I have no idea but that is seriously cute! Oh, does that make me crazy? lol
Uh, my vote is R.O.U.S (Rodent of unusual size)
What's it doing out of the Fire Swamp?
Looks like a Capabara (sp?) We have some in our local zoo here.
We have one of these at our zoo too, but I can't remember the name of it to save my life! UGH! Damn, mommy brain! :-P
I don't know what he is either. Nice shot though.
I think it's a muskrat, although could be wrong. They sorta resemble beavers but without the tail.

Great photo. It sort of looks like a Capybara. If my one twink was home he would know immediately.
no clue! What in the world is that thing?!? :)
The world's biggest Guinea Pig? LOL I have no clue what it is but it sure is...um...unique?
I forgot it's name, but it is some big rodent. We have them in our zoo, too.
Kapibara! I have to credit my hubby. I just remembered it was some type of Aussie animal I think.
I don't know what he is, either, but he sure is adorable!
I have never seen anything like that Speedy. Everything looks so green there and lively.
It looks like a giant guinea pig!
That's such a vivid picture!! How cute is that little guy :D
He looks like an over-sized guinea pig...I do know what he is, but the name totally escapes me!
It is a capybara - the world's largest rodent from South America! And, the Santa Barbara Zoo is getting four new young ones, a sibling group, that will be out on exhibit near the otter exhibit in March!
I think that's a Capybara, Jenn. Not 100% sure but I'm betting that's it.
It's a capybara!! :) But I don't guarantee the spelling lol
Good thing I live in Santa Barbara and was a CIT at zoo camp ;)
Nice picture. I don't think I ever seen that little critter before.
It looks familiar like I've seen it before, but I have no idea. I guess it's what the others have called it. I suppose I've learned something new today.
I have no idea.
That's a really good photo though.
reminds me of a rabbit! lol
I KNOW it's NOT a groundhog or hedgehog...but must be of same family. WHat a great pic!
great picture!
thanks for the blog comment..
I'm a little late to the party, but I think these lovely ladies are right and it is a capybara. I did some online research because it was driving me nuts and well, I have OCD and couldn't move on... damn my brain!
BTW... the photo is INCREDIBLE! I'm glad you found it and shared it.
Yes, that is definitely a Capybarra (sp??)! I was watching one of those nature channels & they were doing a segment on this interesting, but cute rodent. These guys are pretty good in the water! But, unfortunately, the one I saw became an alligator's meal & I had to turn the channel. :(
